The Personal Side of Manoj V. Motwani

Dr. Motwani's personal biography reads like the classic history of many who have emigrated to America. Dr. Motwani was born in India, and was two years old when his father came to the United States. He and his mother followed four years later, and he grew up in the Fresh Meadows neighborhood of Queens, New York, a predominately blue and white-collar area. His only brother was born shortly thereafter.

He attended public school in Queens where he was singled out early on with multiple awards and achievements. He became a U.S. citizen six years later. His family moved to Syosset, Long Island, a suburb of New York City, where he attended Syosset High School, and decided to pursue a career in the sciences. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, one of the premier engineering and science schools in the U.S., and this was where he decided to proceed on to medical school at Albany Medical College, one of the oldest medical schools in the nation.

Although having spent the majority of his life in New York, Dr. Motwani decided warmer pastures were more desirable, and came to San Diego in 1999 and established Alpha Laser Center. Dr. Motwani's brother (and one of his LASIK patients) also moved to California, where he went to USC law school and currently practices law in Los Angeles. Dr. Motwani and his family continue to exemplify the immigrant work ethic and mobility that the United States has become famous for, and have ingrained this high ethical and work standard into all of their endeavors.
